Enhancing Multilingual Capabilities in Salesforce Marketing Cloud

In today's global market, businesses often need to communicate with customers in multiple languages. Recently, I had a client who wanted to understand the capabilities of Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) for sending emails in Spanish and using the platform in a language other than English. Here's what I discovered.

Language Settings in SFMC

Salesforce Marketing Cloud primarily operates in English, and there is no setting to change the language of an entire business unit or account. However, administrators can change the interface language for individual users through the Culture Code setting in their Cloud Preferences. This allows users to see the platform in their preferred language, such as Spanish. Here’s how an admin can do it:

  1. Click your name in the upper right corner.
  2. Select Cloud Preferences from the dropdown menu.
  3. Go to the User Settings tab and click Edit at the top.
  4. Choose a language from the Culture Code dropdown menu.
  5. Log out and log back in for the changes to take effect.

Note: It can take up to an hour for the language selection to be reflected in the Marketing Cloud.

Creating Multilingual Email Content

While SFMC does not provide an out-of-the-box solution for translating emails from one language to another, it is possible to create and send emails in any language. For businesses looking to communicate with Spanish-speaking customers, the recommendation is to create email templates specifically in Spanish. This ensures that the content is accurate and culturally appropriate.

Steps to Create Spanish Email Templates

  1. Draft your email content in Spanish.
  2. Create a new email template in SFMC.
  3. Insert the Spanish content into the template.
  4. Save and test the email to ensure it displays correctly.

By following these steps, businesses can effectively communicate with their customers in their preferred language, enhancing customer experience and engagement.

Conclusion

Salesforce Marketing Cloud offers flexibility for multilingual communication through user-specific language settings and custom email templates. While the platform itself does not support a full language change at the business unit level, administrators can adjust settings for individual users to work in their preferred language. Additionally, creating language-specific email templates ensures that your communications are clear and effective.
